Austin Seybert, trombone
Austin Seybert is a performer, educator, and composer/arranger based in central Illinois. Born and raised in West Virginia, he has degrees in Music Education and Jazz Studies from Marshall University, a Masters in Jazz Trombone from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign, and is currently finishing up a DMA in Classical Trombone and Literature at the University of Illinois. Austin Seybert started his third year of teaching at Bradley University where he teaches Low Brass, Music Appreciation, and Jazz courses. Some notable performances and honors include a 2015 tour as lead trombonist with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, several national and international performance awards as a finalist and winner of trombone competitions for the American Trombone Workshop and the International Trombone Association, a DownBeat Student Award for composition/arranging in 2015, and as a member of Transit Brass was selected to be the ensemble in residence at FredBrass: a national chamber music workshop based in Fredricksburg, Virginia. Austin has prepared himself to be a versatile performer as both a classical and jazz trombonist and can be seen teaching and performing in both idioms. Future hopes and endeavors include finishing the DMA, teaching full time at an University as both a Trombone and Jazz teacher, producing a solo classical and jazz album(s), and spreading the advantages of 21st century versatility for the trombone.
