Established in February 2016, Transit Brass is an ensemble of eight multifaceted musicians dedicated to furthering brass ensemble literature in both classical and jazz idioms. The group's versatility as performers, educators, composers, and arrangers has made them in-demand at a wide range of venues. From schools to libraries, churches to local music spots, Transit Brass offers an entertaining and exciting listening experience for all audiences.
The group features many avid composers who regularly compose and arrange for big band, small group jazz, brass quintet, and brass ensemble. Performing new compositions and arrangements is a tradition of all Transit Brass concerts.
Members of Transit Brass have held teaching positions with public school music departments in Illinois and Texas. They are active as private studio instructors and summer music camp clinicians. Members are currently on faculty at Bradley University, Illinois Wesleyan University, Olivet Nazarene University, Purdue University and the University of Illinois at Springfield.
Members of the group have performed with the Glenn Miller Jazz Orchestra, Disney All-American College Band, Lionel Hampton Youth Jazz Orchestra and have been recognized for jazz arranging excellence by Downbeat Magazine. They have competed in the National Trumpet Competition, been semi-finalists and finalists at Regional and International Tuba-Euphonium Conferences, and won honors at the American Trombone Workshop and International Trombone Festival. Members regularly perform with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Peoria Symphony Orchestra, Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, Danville Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia da Camera and Heartland Festival Orchestra.
